the Epic Movie Week, Avatar's Alien, Vs the most important world History, The Bodyguards and the Assassins and on little Treasure Hunter

Avatar, The movie that is supposed to be the epic CGI movie of the year, turn to be one of the biggest movie of the year going into getting the award for the best movie? Could it be too good to be true? Sound familiar? Titanic anyone?

Well, that’s James Cameron. You can never say no to one of the most innovative, diverse and ahead of time director.

Let’s have a look, the movie is real, the character though CGI, the expression seems real enough to get people feel the emotion. It is close enough. The story? You got the epic love, the tough love ,the friendship, the comrade, the sacrifice, the epic battle scene, you got the action, there’s the move, there’s the exotic creature, there’s the good and the bad, the family, the fights to get recognize and to ward off enemy.

All the element of a great epic story is there, now the technology. The graphic is definitely ahead of our time and the illustration and animation is better than a lot of movie of the past. The editorial, the cutting board have done some of the most amazing timing for a lot of the scene, the setup of the backdrop is breathtaking. There’s not a doubt that it would be one of the most anticipated and best movie. But how many people can get over the fact that it is 90% computer generated and view it as any actors concentrated movies?

Unexpectedly, my life has brought me back to my root this year. With the urges of some of my friend from the mainland. I’ve come to watch 2 of the most anticipated Chinese movie of the year. First is the story about how Mr. Sun plans his rebellion of the China last Empire when he arrive in Hong Kong for less than 3 hours and successfully become the father of democracy for China. The Bodyguards and the Assassins is about the little incident in Hong Kong between the gang that have been protecting the movement from the China Empire. So a bunch of local, from scholar to rich man to the student to the cart puller, all is in a plot to let Mr. Sun has the time to plan with his co-conspirator all around China. The many unnamed rebel that have sacrifice for one single effort to over-throw the then corrupted Empire. A movie that have taken 10 years to make, hundreds of cast changes, that have wear out all of Hong Kong, China, and Taiwan’s resources to make. The story of making this movie about a Small incident in the October of the turn of the last century…… is as Epic as the movie itself. And there’s no disappointment in such a movie that comes from the most inner heart of the movie maker himself. And the tenacity to make it through everything to make this movie is even admirable.

The second movie is the all-hyped Jay Chow’s and Taiwan most beautiful woman, Lim Chi Ling’s movie, The Treasure Hunter. There’s no comparison to the previous 2 movie. The editorial is a bit rough, the story is a bit weak in spot. It is not as perfect as any of Jackie Chan’s old treasure hunting movie. Yet, with the star power that is from the movie. 2 Best Male Actor and one most anticipated actor of our time. Treasure Hunter still have it’s attraction, and predominant fans. It is about the story of the a treasure hunter that is working for a boss, when the boss’s daughter is kidnapped and boss been killed. It is up to the treasure hunter to retrieve what’s been stolen and save the girl. Yup, it’s all the cliché but a cool entertaining movie to watch if you have the time.

The Golden Globe nomination and let the drama begin

Now the New Golden Globe Nominations is all in today, can Meryl Streep Receive more nomination seems like the theme this year.
And to tell the truth, the writer will have a thrill on this one. But Meryl Streep, need anyone to say more. It is in my opinion about time that she got another Oscar for female lead this year if I can have my way with it.
One huge surprise from the nomination is the first Nominated Best Pic for the year. Avatar?! It’s just came up this week, how is it possible to reach nomination so fast? People are still debating whether the Special Effects is good or bad. Well, maybe the name of James Cameron is enough to bring it. For a Graphically heavy action movie to get a Best Drama Nod, this is a first, and the main characters are mostly CGI. Maybe the animation can become a best actor too.
I am somewhat voting on Precious to take home the awards this year, seeing that it is the winner in Sundance. And How does Inglorious Basterds consider a Drama instead of Comedy?
As for Best Female, I love the facts that a new comer like Gabourey Sidibe(Precious)would compete with the winner, Helen Mirren(The Last Station), the Most likely Sandra Bullock(Blind Side) and the New and Always original, Emily Blunt (The Young Victoria). The Best Drama Female will have the best Drama this year.
As for the Best male lead….. the fight is a bit below the mark, Jeff Bridges, George Clooney and Colin Firth Vs Morgan Freeman and Tobey Maguire. The fame Clan, versus the Effort Clan. Morgan Freeman, the Best ever to play Nelson Mandela, and Tobey…. Look at the face and the body, can any actor seems more dedicated to his work this year?
As for the Best Comedy, you got the edgy and original type, (500) Days of Summer, the No Brainer Blockbuster Type, The Hangover, the lighthearted love story type, It’s Complicated, the Classic, Julie & Julia and the MUSICAL, say more Oscar,……. Nine?
This will be an interesting indication what Comedy truly is the king of the Humor world, when everyone of them is as entertaining as anything you can get. It even up stage the Best Drama this year.
So best Female in Comedy….. will there be a 2 win for Sandra Bullock? Or which type Meryl will win(….. Julie & Julia)? Or…. Let the fight of the Oscar begin, Julia Roberts and Marion Cotillard and Meryl Streep. Sandra is the only none Oscar Best Female in the category, so will she be next?
As for the Best Support by a female…. I’m betting everything on Mo’nique (Precious), I just couldn’t see anything can top that. Yes Penelope is great in Nine and Beautiful. As Dreamgirls say, Penelope has always been beautiful but Mo’nique got the Chop. HAHA!
As for best Screenplay, I’d love to see District 9 got the nod. For it is one of the most original Screenplay I’ve ever seen in years. It’s not the most feel good movie ever, but it has meat.
This year, I actually think that Pixar might lose it’s trophy to one of the animation.
On the TV world, I vote…. True Blood for Best Drama (but most like Big Love would be the one to win), Glenn Close for Best Female, Simon Baker is about time to be recognize to bring Mentalist to life, Do you hear Tina Fay and Alec Baldwin again? Or will David Duchovny finally get away with it and Edie Falco come back in a big way, or the most earning new Series of the year Glee be winning every one of them including Best Comedy? Or would a cougar hold the trophy? Well, actually the TV Mini Series have even more to be hype for than the full-length series (some actually didn’t even make the full season and could be called mini-series too haha!) my bet is on “a Garden” and “the Storm”.
For the full nomination list you can check on it below

The New Moon Saga have begun

Alright, after the Black Friday……
There’s no way that anyone can write a decent movie review without talking about the New Moon
How can you, skip the biggest thing to ever hit the screen this year.
So, Taylor Lautner is the lead on this years of the Twilight Saga, but with the story, the obsession of Bella on the Vamp, the bitterness from departing from the sweetness of last year’s movie, Jacob still remain as the Second lead in the second movie.
The main line of the story is still, the love story between Bella and Edward.
The storyline is well formed, and balanced between action and love hurting, yet for those that have no idea what the story book is about will have problem accepting the changes. and it’s seems a bit boring to see a love that never would work blossom in Jacob. The humor is less in this second movie. A typical example of what’s actually work on books would seem a bit hard to translate the anticipation into movie.
It's like too few at the beginning and too much at the end.
Anyway, the Volturi is an exciting to look at with that amazing cast, but fans knows that they are not likely to come back until the last movie.
and the wolf packs is right up the alleyway of good. the effects is good enough too. at least the wolf is intimidating to look at.
Anyway, for the die-hard fans, there’s no way that they are going to miss the next 2 movie, no matter what. It is still one of the most interesting story that teenage this century decade have.

This year, if anyone have seen the premiere you’d notice the far far reaching effects that fame have on something. It’s humungous compare to last year, so-called independence movie premiere. Every media is there. Even the evening news network, it’s crazy. (And well done to twi-fans they also packed and Blown up Comic-con this year.). it’s a wonder how big it’s gonna blow up in the coming 2 years.
With the progress of the filming and the schedule of the shoot, the saga would surely end in 2012, so what will happen after that? What would happen to the Twilight gang then? Or the fans?

Ninja Assassin VS Storm Warriors

The Hong Kong is taking on the Storm Warriors comic again for the first time 10 years after the 1st movie.
A continuation from the first movie, and an exact continuation.
I mean, nothing much did change but the storyline. All of the fighting and the rush over from the first fight scene to the last. I must give credit to the actor and the stunt double. The action is impeccable.
Yet, there’s just one small problem, people have seen 300 and the cuts from hit to the drop…. You just miss the best part of it. The hit should be clear and not cut over and the drop is just an ending to a fall, no biggy to feature it is slow mo. Ppl want to see the hitting in slow mo, not the movement. Of course there’s no blood at all haha.
Well, the actor for the 2 main characters and the female lead is 10 years older, and it seems that they are maturing out of the character……. Don’t think the 3rd movie will be able to get done fast enough before they are old.
They just don’t fit the young and reckless anymore.
As for the effects, 10 years ago it’s a great leap for Hong Kong movie, but 10 years later, they are old. Hong Kong industry have to figure out a way to start improving their work on the effects from now on.

After a long awaiting month, I finally got a closer look to the Ninja that I was supposed to watch, Ninja Assassin
Rain did a great job as the Ninja. The physique is incredible. Though the script is not super incredible, but as an action movie it’s good enough.
At least the writer is good enough to write some humor into the character.
Better than those that didn’t even bother to look at it.
The special effects are old school, a little bit TV-esque to tell the truth. I am a bit impress with the 2.5D effects of the Ninja’s weapon flying around and yet that is the one thing that actually makes the movie seems weak.
The gore, to those that is squirmish…. You might want to take a back seat on this one. It is a bit out there. But for those that crave for it…. It’s not Saw so it’s not Gorish enough.
All in all it is a movie that enjoyable, and pretty simple.

Entertainment is up for the week 3 of 2009 Nov. Get a New Moon, and hundreds copies of fab music

This week marks a busy week in entertainment
New Moon Premiere this week. Young girls start howling.
Leona Lewis Album drop this week. Which is a near close shot to the last album. Close at heart. The screaming siren still sounds as soulful as ever.
John Mayer, the jazz, blues, and unplugged pioneer of our time dropping his newest album, Battle Studies, today without leasing out even the most little hint of what’s on the album. Audience will have to grab the whole album right on to see what’s on the mind of the music thinker.
We also see the release of this year’s AI winner Kris Allen self title album. They say it’s modest and ordinary. To me, there’s been too many flashy and R&B schick lately, I think a little bit of modest is good for the soul now.
Of course this week we are seeing the show’s runner’s up chasing over Kris, Adam Lambert with the built up of 2012, proven to be one of the most watched movie of the year now, will be putting out his right hand to entertain the audience all around. Just expect nothing less entertaining. Let’s get entertain “For Your Entertainment”.

2 totally different sci-fi movie collided, Meatball meet The time traveller

Cloudy with a chance of meatball is a very interesting movie. A bit querky, very dorky and very funny.
Of course the idea of raining food is strange enough on it’s own. But to put in the main course of family values and love story seems like a must in every animated movie.
Well, the 3D version definitely makes the banging and the dropping and the rolling of all the huge food seem a lot more delightable.
Surely someone who can enjoy the stiff straight meaningful of Pixar can also enjoy such light hearted humor of a Sony animation.
Well, it’s a strange and funny thing to watch food fall from the sky and the cool way to end the show with a scifi thriller style bang.

The Time Traveler’s wife, I would wonder how many move love story would it takes for the producer to realize that Rachel McAdams is “the girl” to go for for any love story movie. The futuristic idea of a disappearing husband, the love story that span the period ad crosses each other over the time of a 3 decade, the love story of a waiting woman and the man that can’t control his own destiny.
What love could be, and how to make it last and the humor towards life’s uncontrollable factor, there is still this chemistry that loves created that makes us lust for more.
The devotion of a man’s heart to the woman of his life and the pure love to wait for the coming of true love. even when we know exactly what will happen we still cannot know it all and wonder about the mystery and detail behind the event. A perfect love story with the perfect chemistry and all the physical gravity.

Harness (horse) racing could be the most exciting track racing sport i've ever heard of

Over a month ago I met this teenager online, and it’s such a pleasant thing to discover new things in life. He is a harness racing champion.
That is a sport that involves horse pulling a 2-wheeled carriage behind them. The rider sits on a small seats on the carriage, holding the harness and riding the horse.
The most exciting thing about this is, you are sitting on the back, the dust flying past you, you can feel the vibration from the wheel course through the whole race and hear the sound of the horse panting with rhythm.
I feel that to have seated behind the wheel on in this case on the wheel running on 70 miles per hour on a sand course with a fantastic horse power in front of you and your only control of the whole situation is 2 thin line you are holding. Just thinking about all the possibility and the danger and the control and at last winning can give you a thrill
Now below is the brief conversation I have with the champion. The teenager that inspire this small article.

Jonathan
so how much work is there actually to take care of a horse
?

Bobby
so much you cannot take a day off

your day starts about 7am when you feed them breakfast, wait for them to eat, then you gotta clean their stalls, train them

you should be done around 4 or 5pm thats when you feed for the night

Jonathan
how many times you gotta feed them in a day?
twice or like human 3?

Bobby
breakfast in the morning and supper at night, but during the day you might just throw them some hay to have a snack on

Jonathan
what's kinda snack do they like?
apple, carrot?

Jonathan
i suppose you have to brush them daily. do you bath them like everyday?

Bobby
yeah brush and bath everyday

Jonathan
so is it different to train a horse for ride races and harness races?

Bobby
yeah its really different

jonathan
how is it different?

Bobby
well all the gear is different. the tracks are different lengths.

Jonathan
i see. when you start you have to train them to get familiarize with carriage too?

Bobby
well the bike is called a sulky and we do that when they are 1 or 2 years old, and that process is called breaking babies and it takes alot of patience and smart decisions and gotta know what you are doing

Jonathan
the breaking. does it also include breaking them into familiarise with the rider?
you ever tame a wild horse?
that's also called breaking right?

Bobby
yup it does sometimes, its mostly to get the horse used to his or her equipment, the bike, the driver , the track and his surroundings

yes i have

and yup it is

Jonathan
is.
i c
so what about you. the rider. what kinda training to need to do?

Bobby
well as a driver we get our experience from just working with the horse knowing what to do when something happens, and take tips when older horsemen

Jonathan
every horse have different habit when they run?

Bobby
well as a driver we get our experience from just working with the horse knowing what to do when something happens, and take tips when older horsemen

Jonathan
how long is a track? and how fast exactly do you run on average?

Bobby
well as a driver we get our experience from just working with the horse knowing what to do when something happens, and take tips when older horsemen
tracks are either one mile long or a half mile when a track is a half mile you must race two laps to achive the mile

Bobby
usually about 40 mph

Jonathan
that's fast

Bobby
oh yea haha

Jonathan
pretty hard to balance when you turn
you ever topple?

Bobby
as in fall off?

Jonathan
yup

Bobby
actually no i have been lucky enough to never been in a accident

Jonathan
you ever won any race?

Bobby
yeah actually the pic in my profile there is my first race win

Jonathan
really, look really good there. nice form

Bobby
haha thank you

Jonathan
where are you now?

i mean where are you from?

Bobby

2012, the year of the biggest disaster movie since armegeddon

Yup, it's totally exploded into existence, or should I say oblivion.
Yes you want to watch it. I want to watch it, everyone want to watch how human or earth would be gone again after a long wait.
what a great day to start the black friday's weekend. Anywhere you go there’s not a cinema that show that movie not have any line that’s 2 blocks away. The liner is cramping people into bunches to no obstruct any traffic.
I haven’t seen this scene since the relaunch of Titanic. Well of course, it’s just the hype.
People are long for a change of scenery in the movie genre by now. Not just vampire and futuristic fighter. Of course it’s just the beginning, whether this will bring it to the titanic portion total in box office is still yet to be known. When titanic relaunch it have already reach 20 times it’s production cost.

Anyway what a great way to celebrate the coming of the winter with a movie that can actually exceed any of the summer movie sales haha!

Enjoy the disastrous everyone

On one small note, Any of you that haven’t actually seen the Rain’s Ninja Assassin, be warn that there’s another ninja movie out there named Ninja. It’s acted by some unknown action star. The question is that it is not exactly your first grade action movie. The script is a bit weak and the character is chasing something that seems.... useless. You see a bit of gore, far less than Saw or 300, and the action in slow mo is not quite up to the spectacle either. And if you are going to go in thinking it’s Ninja Assassin, then you are totally going to be bored to death by it and Ninja Assassin is going to lose it’s audience as well, for i don’t feel that people are up for another ninja disappointment.

p.s. while Michael still lives through to Thanksgiving holiday, This is It have reach it’s 200 Mill marking this week.

if Surrogate can be created for everything in life....

Surrogate is the movie that actually discuss about what the world is going to be in the future is, if our lives can be replaced by robotics to go around the world with no fear of human being hurt yet still be able to live and feel?
Yet it poses the underlying problems and issues that ensues with the surrogacy of human body in all living environment. Are we really living normally or the pursues of normalcy have cause the very person to lock themselves in the house and hide from the real world through a robot.
The story is easy enough to understand, and the progression is easily guessed yet the topics is an intrigue one. Leaving audience dive into the situation and imagine what they would be like to live in such a state.
So what will happen if we life through robot or if we have the freedom….. or when we lose it suddenly?

Good News!! Micheal Jackson: This is it!! will have it's screening extended to the Thanksgiving holiday!

Everyone!!! It’s just a 2 week show. Better get your tickets now. This is it!! The ultimate concert that never happen.
The spetacular that will not be seen by the world could be the most amazing journey that the fans from over 3 decade that have never experienced. The mixes of the old sound with the new move and the most adventurous and experimental sets ever created. The pyro techniques and the lighting, the huge screen and the huge on stage setting. The dancers that moves as well as Micheal, and the old timer that is so comfortable with him and the new generation that have been inspired by him now stand on the same stage with the great and learn and see the work shape by the meistro.
Jackson, at the age of 51, still moves as fast and reflects as well as a 20 yo and sing even better than any experienced singer. You can’t stop but look on the big screen and be impressed by the professionalism of this great artist. Ask the dancers, seeing him sing and dance on stage, even when it’s just a rehearsal, the 50% effort is already better than more than half of the artist on earth.
He is simply the most unique and the only and only KING OF POP in our decade and I think for the century ahead of us.

Pandorum a concoction of thrill that never stop till the end

Know how the Pandorum swing
When you wake up in a chamber, not knowing where you are, what’s your name and why are you here and there’s no one that can tell you the reason you are here…. What would you do?

To top that concoction with a space ship full of monster….. how do you survive.
That’s what happen and when Pandorum is not the name of an object.

Pandorum is the name of the Event Horizon-esque + Aliens movie.
The suspense, the psychotic breakdown of the character, the chase and the rescue, this is one thriller that makes sense and really brought back all the dark scary alley way moment.

Though craziness is just one the edge of the good side, and too overly outrageous, though the action and the chasing can be faster and more focused but it is enough.
Though the last part of the effects are done rather poorly. It simply seems a bit too drawing that real. Maybe that’s what the director try to convey that the new would have other worldly color than on earth.
Overall it is a fast pace thriller with reasonable scare.
