In view of the Latin Grammy, we try to catch up with Juanes award winning album. Everyone knows by now that it’s a fantastic album. And all latin music lover simply should have La Vida Es Un Ratico on their CD collection if not on iPod.
The CD got me swinging from the first beat to the last verse. What Latin have redefined in the music genre is remarkable. The rhythmic number bring back so many memory of Cuban dance number, salsa and tango and flamingo that it’s just…… fabulous. Not that any of the rock star beat resemblance those standard traditional sound, but they are so much more. I just love the street dance. Free, happy, inspiring and up lifting. Everything that a music should do.
It makes me smile back to one of the comment my high school teacher phrases, “You want to be a musician? Only poor people dances on the street and sings Rap!!!”, what an ignorant claim. Now musicians have millions to spend. Yes, those dances on the street is poor but at least they are far more happy than a grumpy old man still working in a 4 by 4 cubical claiming they are much more superior than a 17 year old. No disrespect, but I trust that there are wisdom even in a 2 yo child.
As for the next CD is a bit disturbing. Of course by now everyone knows about Amy Winehouse’s Back to Black album, which win her more than enough awards. But the singer condition is truly a disturbing facts now. With the drugs and situation she is in and out of hospital all this time. People would always debate about the singer, and whether they should be honoured, but regardless how she live her life have non of the merit to what the album have achieved. Something that non singer have done for over a decade. That is beating pop music and R & B with a classic blues sound and revive the beat to general interest. And lowering the demographic to include teenager in the equation. We do wish that Amy will recover physically, mentally and spiritually soon and bring more great sound to us.
