Finally we got our interview back from one of our most anticipated band of the month.
Fulcum is a three guy band with this funky strange look to them. All three fellas from different playful background ended up together making some of the most freakishly funkie sound together. They are young and restless, one advice though do not play their songs when you’re getting ready to go to sleep cos you’d get so hyped up that you just want to dance on your bed all night HAHA!
Check out our conversation last week.
Hey there. IT’s great to finally got you guys on our schedule. It’s been great. Shall we get going with this?
Q:So guys where are you guys from? Who are each and every one of you? How did you guys got together?
A:Well we are the rock band “Fulcrum”, and we are a bit of a funny story. We started out as a 2-piece group that consisted of me (Jason) and Sean, who met in our high school swimming class, as an acoustic guitar and drums duo that we put together for just one gig. The gig actually got cancelled and our band almost never even happened, but Sasha just happened to make his way to Denver from Florida, and we decided to keep going. The three of us are all completely different people, which makes us a bit of a strange group of personality. Sean is a bit of a post-skateboarder type who listens to lots of technical drummer rock like Tool and System of a Down. Sasha was born in Hawaii, raised in Florida, and a bit of a “surfer in dry land” here in Denver, and he owns probably every single punk record ever made. I’m more of the strange one in the group. I listen to lots of pop and rock and I dress like I should be in some ad in GQ (laughs).
Q:What should people expect of your music?
A:Energetic, melodic alternative rock that moves your body! We are a modern day rock ‘n’ roll band! I know there are only 3 of us, but when we take the stage, we make a hell of a lot of sound and we’re a band you can only listen to loud.
Q: Any gig that’s been planned at the moment?
A:Um right now we are actually not booked anywhere this month because we’re doing lots of other things like a music video and getting ready to record in Fort Collins with producer Andrew Berlin. We are doing South By Southwest (SXSW) which is in Austin, TX in March which should be a blast! I believe we are working on some local dates in December, so check out our myspace for updates on that!
Q:You Like the vibe when you play live? What venue is the best that you have played before?
A:I think the best place we’ve played at recently has been The Gothic Theater here in Denver. Everyone who runs the show there is great and the audience we got there was incredible. It was an amazing vibe and we can’t wait to play there again soon.
Q: Should we be expecting any album coming soon? How can people show their support if they like your music?
A:Well right now we are in the tedious process of securing our record deal, so as far as near future goes, I don’t think our album will be making its debut too soon, but I would keep an eye out for it sometime around this summer. We will have a 5 song "collector’s edition" EP available for our die-hard fans in the meantime.Q: Who or where should people go to book you guys for shows or gigs? Most booking is done with our manager in California Denny Lyons and his info is available on our myspace page, which is myspace. com/fulcrumrock, but for local gigs around here we can also handle booking. Just send us an email to fulcrumrock@comcast.net
Q:How do you really come out with such wicked sound in your music? Did it just spring out when you were jamming in the garage? Do you write the music like just improvise it at the stage?
A:Sometimes we do! (laughs) Typically I write the songs on my acoustic guitar and piece them together myself, then once I have something I like, we bring it all together and pretty much take it apart and put it back together as a band. It’s not a normal or traditional way to write music, but I guess since that’s how our band started in the beginning, it’s just been that way since.
Q:Who is your greatest inspiration?
A:I think the three of us would collectively say “girls”, but in a more deep manner we really have to give a lot of credit to the great musical artists we look up to and are influenced from. On a smaller scale, there are lots of things and people who just become in life that keep us going aswell though. We really write music for the certain people who need to hear it. There are a lot of people out there who need to hear some of the messages in the songs we write. There is a huge homeless community in Denver that personally pushes me to “keep on keepin’ on” because as we have people we look up to, there are lots of people around here who need something to look up to also. It’s very inspiring.
Q: Something more about yourself, who is single and who’s not and who’s totally looking right now?
A:(Laughs) Well I’m single, Sasha is not, and Sean is totally looking!
Q:Any preference?
A:As long as you have a beautiful heart and an honest smile, it doesn’t get any better than that!
Q:So before we end, anything you wish to say to all the readers and fans?
A:We have a lot of big things planned with our music so keep checking out our myspace and come out to one of our shows! We work hard to create the best songs we can for our fans. We understand everything falls into place when you write great songs, and we always live by the words "It's all about the music!" …and always use protection!
Well said man. We wish you all the best in your music career.
Signing off,
Jonathan
